Probike : 75 years

Probike celebrates 75 years being in the cycling business. And we in India have been the latest addiditon to the ever growing global family of Probike.

Hopefully in 75 years time the Probike India CEO will be writing a blog or broadcasting a Live Video celebrating Probike's 150 years in business in the global cycling Industry.

Our committment to the indian market will only grow and strengthen in the years to come.

Indian Cycling Forums

India is fast turing to a community based cycling country. There are bout 200 odd cycling communities across cities like Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi  Hyderabad

Names such as Powai Riders, Carter Road cyclists , Sobo riders are fast becoming synonymous with Leisure cycling. It is encouraging to see  active cyclists on community forums such as www.cyclists.in and www.bikeszone.com have been active in promoting cycling both as a sport and a leisure activity.

We will be very soon participating in our nd cyclothon after the Mumbai Cyclothon. the next stop is Pune cyclothon!!

Looking forward to ride with the Probike Riders in Pune as well!!

2 months, 30 Dealers & 1600 New Customers

 It has been long since i last updated my blog! I apologise for the inactivity. 

The last 2 months have finally seen the Probike business take baby steps and start trading in India. We have welcomed to the family 30 new cycle dealers, 1800+ new  customers across 21 cities in India. 

On behalf of the team at Probike, i would like to thank each one of our dealers and customers who retail our bikes and have bought our bikes. We continue to gather the feedback received from our customers and dealers and are working on incorporating the same in the Probike way of doing business. 

Probike participated in the recently concluded Mumbai Cyclothon. We were a team of 44 cyclists who rode on our products and finished the 24km Corporate ride. It was a wonderful event and our cyclists were covered/photographed in DNA newspaper and TV9 which is a reputed TV channel. Our marketing efforts continue with adverts in the Chennai Edition of 'The Hindu' and the Kolhapur City edition of 'Pudhari'

Good Morning,

• Internal Wall painting has been completed
• Internal Electric Lights installation complete
• Office construction work is currently underway. Expected date of completion : 17^th September 09
• The Electricity Generator work is still pending.  installation by  end of this week.
• Contract Staff to be employed at the warehouse : This is work which is still on the To Do List. No progress achieved as of now
• First meeting with the Labour union at the Warehouse has taken place. As soon as I get some clarity on this issue I will update.

• The following cities have been covered: Mumbai & Pune. The dealers have been approached and based on data we have identified  Dealers across Mumbai.
• Pune: Dealers identified and approached
• Scheduled appointments with Dealers in the following cities.  

This is just an abstract of the complete email. Adhering to our business policy of 'Step by Step' we have achieved substantial progress in India in the last 2 months. Team Probike India is now on board. I welcome Javed Bangi - Sales Manager & Nazim Shaikh - Warehouse Manager to the Probike family. Both bring with them a desire and capability of establishing the Probike brand in India.

A very senior retail expert once told me ' India comes with its own set of challenges, but once you overcome those challenges sky is the limit'.

Probike India is moving 'Step by Step' towards our goal!!

After countless meetings with Bureaucracy and Fed Ex couriers between South Africa & India finally we have our identity established in India.

It has been a long wait but it feels like we just started today and all it took was a simple mail from the Office of Registrar of Companies at 3.38 am in the morning. I am thinking if they work so late  everyday then why did they have to make us  wait so long for our company name ??

Shanghai Bike Show '09

My first visit to the Shanghai Bike show ’09 was a great experience. Being able to walk the show with Brandon and Robbie was a steep learning curve.

It was a pleasure meeting representatives from brands like Shimano and our factories in the East. This show also saw the humble beginnings of our latest product offering. The bikes evinced keen interest from international as well as local customers in China.

Probike India had its first Board meeting in the environs of our hotel in Shanghai. There were various business decisions that were taken during the course of this long and exhaustive meeting. The team  has now had a virtual walkthrough of how we would function on a day to day basis in India. The 1^st two quarters of business operation have practically being discussed. The goals in these couple of quarters have been laid out and a definite strategy is in place to achieve our business objectives.

The Indian biking market has seen a rise in the number of International biking brands entering the country. Trek and Firefox entered India a year after we had entered the market through our tie up with a Chain Store in India. Merida and LA Sovereign soon followed suit. The latest entrant has been Cannondale who have entered through a joint venture with TI cycles.

The interesting thing to observe here is that none of the above brands are present directly in the country. They are present through some JV or a local distribution partner. We are probably the only ones who have taken the decision to enter this huge potential market ourselves. The team at Probike aim to make Probike as a shopping destination of bikes & spares for dealers and customers alike.
